Varied flow near Hampton Court

Rules

Molesey Lock is a designated Environment Agency lock-and-weir fishing site: fishing there is only from the marked lock fishing sites and requires a separate Environment Agency lock and weir fishing permit as well as a rod licence (no lock/weir permit fishing 15 March–15 June; see gov.uk/guidance/river-thames-lock-and-weir-fishing). This is separate from the nearby free public bank, which remains free where access is genuinely public. Lock/navigation restrictions apply. • An Environment Agency rod licence may be required in addition to the fishery/club permission. • Normal coarse river close season: 15 March–15 June inclusive, unless a different legal/species rule applies. • Free only where the river bank is genuinely public access; do not cross private land. • Carp and coarse fish: catch-and-release unless the fishery rules state otherwise.
