Newland Hall Fishery

It is available for day and night fishing when not privately booked, and exclusive whole-lake bookings can also be arranged. The fishery operates throughout the year, with day and night tickets available. Individual anglers normally do not need to book in advance. Fishing is on a first-come, first-served basis, with the bailiff collecting payment on the bank. Entry is permitted between 6am and 8pm, although anglers holding the appropriate tickets can fish overnight. Free fishing at Rivelin Valley (Rivelin Valley Road, Rivelin, Sheffield S6), listed by Sheffield City Council as one of its free fishing sites. The valley's mill dams are maintained for recreational fishing — the Wolf Wheel mill dam is the largest kept for fishing, and was stocked with bream, tench and crucian carp after being dredged in 1967. Fish only at the council's authorised fishing site; public footpaths through the valley do not imply unrestricted river fishing on the River Rivelin. A current Environment Agency rod licence is required.

River Anker – Bolehall

Bolehall is Birmingham Anglers Association's named River Anker fishery in Tamworth. The official description identifies chub, roach, tench, barbel and pike, making this a mixed river venue rather than a single-species fishery. BAA describes a relatively small river with shallow banks, easy walking and convenient access from a nearby car park. Those statements describe the approach and banks, but are not a formal guarantee of wheelchair-accessible fishing platforms. Access is through the Bolehall Social Club car park, reached from the A51 ring road by travelling along Amington Road beneath the railway arch. From the parking area, a path leads down the bank to the water. BAA publishes an exact coordinate for the car-park entrance, so visitors can navigate to an identified access point rather than to an approximate river midpoint. The association also states that its members may use the social club. The official map marks a single bank beside the club and upstream around the bend; it does not authorise both banks or the entire river through Tamworth. Fishing requires BAA membership, an appropriate rod licence and compliance with association rules. Night fishing is expressly prohibited, and members should check contest bookings before choosing a date.

River Avon – Bidford Left Bank & Marlcliff

Bidford Left Bank and Marlcliff form one officially listed Avon fishery with two published navigation references. The club describes water between three and ten feet deep and names chub, roach, dace, bream, tench and barbel. Its map follows the left bank downstream from the Bidford approach through the lettered Marlcliff sections, including the weir island within section B. At Bidford, parking is in the recreation ground after crossing the bridge, and a parking fee applies. That convenient approach should not be confused with permission to fish the recreation ground itself: BAA fishing begins beyond the hedge separating it from the adjoining field. Marlcliff provides a second approach through the village to riverside parking or the Association car park, and can also be used to reach the Bidford water. Annual membership and an appropriate rod licence are required. The night-fishing distinction is essential: Bidford does not allow it, while Marlcliff requires an additional permit obtained in advance from BAA headquarters. Check current bookings and remain within the mapped left-bank rights.

River Avon – Manor Farm, Wasperton

Manor Farm at Wasperton provides a named Avon fishery rather than a general entitlement to fish around Barford or Stratford. The official map marks two sections on the same riverbank, with separate upstream and downstream approaches through the village. The club describes relatively shallow water, deeper conditions farther downstream, and substantial weed and reed growth in the upper part during summer. Published fish include chub, roach, perch, pike and barbel, with trout noted as occasional catches. Light float tackle is mentioned in the official description, making this a useful option for members interested in exploring the changing character of the river rather than relying on unverified specimen claims. The supplied decimal coordinate identifies the upstream car park. A second parking place has an official what3words reference but no published decimal pair. Members may drive along the bank only when conditions allow: ruts and wet-weather mud can make that unsuitable. Follow the authorised tracks, close gates, carry current membership and rod-licence evidence, and leave within permitted daylight-access hours. Night fishing is not allowed.

River Avon – Salford Priors

Salford Priors is the Association’s right-bank fishery below the River Arrow’s meeting with the Warwickshire Avon. The official description gives roughly three quarters of a mile of fishing and includes a short, 150-yard section of the Arrow. This makes the confluence a useful identifying feature, but permission remains limited to the marked BAA banks rather than extending automatically around the junction or onto the opposite shore. Chub, roach, perch, barbel and gudgeon are specifically recorded by the club, with tench and bream described as occasional catches. The venue is also identified as suitable for contests, so members should check current booked-water notices before choosing a date. Access follows the caravan-park approach and service road to the BAA car park at the end of the track. River Mease – Harlaston

Harlaston is a separately mapped BAA fishery on the River Mease, approached from the village of Harlaston near Edingale. The association describes the Mease here as a small, winding river with shallow runs and deeper holes, suited to anglers who move between swims rather than remaining at a single permanent platform. Chub, perch, pike and barbel are explicitly listed, with specimen-size fish mentioned but no verified numerical weight claims supplied. The official approach is to travel from Tamworth toward Harlaston, turn left at the pub and then right across the river bridge. Anglers park at the roadside before crossing a field and the footbridge to the marked fishing bank. BAA provides an exact numerical reference for that roadside parking location. It is an access reference, not the position of a particular swim or the boundary of the fishing right. The fishery map marks a limited bank section near the bridge and around the bends toward Edingale. It does not confer continuous fishing rights upstream to Netherseal, which BAA lists as another venue. The official boundary plan marks the controlled bank on the Cotheridge side; it should not be read as permission to fish the opposite bank or the whole loop of river shown on the drawing. Its published guest-permit section is approximately three-quarters of a mile long and is specifically described as holding barbel, chub, pike, roach, river carp and dace. The official map places this fishing on the East Stoke side of the river, opposite Fiskerton, rather than granting rights along both banks. Sefton Park Lake

1.5 mile stretch of the Dorset Stour. A beautiful council own section of the river with a public footpath running the entire length. It gets very busy with walkers, picnickers, swimmings and dogs in the summer months. Recommend early mornings, evenings or winter fishing. Free parking on surrounding roads. There's also a free carpark at the Kingfisher Barn Visitors Centre but please note entry and exit times as they lock the carpark at night.

Throop Fishery – River Stour, Dorset

Throop Fishery is one of the best-known coarse fisheries on the lower Dorset Stour, on the northern edge of Bournemouth. It has over five miles of fishable bank, with boulder weirs, bridges, side streams, deep glides and gravel shallows. The fishery is split into three beats, each with its own character. Operator, day tickets and membership Throop is run by Ringwood & District Anglers Association (RDAA). Non-members can fish Throop Beats 1–3 on a day ticket. RDAA publishes day tickets at £14 (2 rods, full day), with £10 tickets for OAPs, disabled anglers and juniors. One-week tickets cost £80 standard and £60 concession. Tickets can be ordered online through the RDAA website and cannot be used during the river closed season. Annual RDAA membership is also available and covers a much wider range of rivers and lakes on the Hampshire Avon and Dorset Stour. Members-only extras such as night permits are not included in a day ticket. Beat 1 – Hurn From the top boundary (the bottom end of the Muscliffe free stretch) down to New Weir. Overhanging willows, clear gravel shallows and deep holes, with long deep glides that give first-class chub and roach fishing, especially at the top end. Bream are found in the deeper swims. Species: roach, chub, bream, pike, barbel, eels and dace, with a few carp. The beat can be weedy in summer. Some swims involve long walks. This section joins RDAA's Bounds Farm fishery on the north bank. Fishing times: sunrise to two hours after sunset. 24-hour fishing is available only to members with a night permit. No bivvies; maximum 24 hours in one swim. Beat 2 – Bournemouth From below New Weir, over two weirs and through tree-lined banks, to Blackwater Bridge on the A338. This is the most popular beat, with weir pools, fast shallow glides, reedmace and bulrush islands, and deep channels. Species: barbel, chub, dace, roach, perch, bream, eels and pike. The Mill Pool is worth trying for carp and tench. No entry before 6.30am. You must leave the estate by 11.15pm in June, 10.30pm in July, 10pm in August, 9.30pm from 1 September to 31 March, 9.45pm in April and 10.45pm in May. There are no concessions for night permit holders on this beat. The Mill Pool is closed in the closed season, and game permits exclude it. Beat 3 – Littledown & Jumpers From Blackwater Bridge to the bottom boundary. Species: barbel, chub, dace, roach, bream, perch, eels and pike. Fishing times: 6.30am to two hours after sunset. Night fishing is for members with a night permit only, with no bank access outside these times otherwise. Limited daylight-only parking is available at the golf course; park behind the sheds where indicated. No dogs in the caravan park. No bivvies; maximum 24 hours in one swim. Season, access and rules The coarse season runs from 16 June to 14 March. Trout and salmon need a game fishing ticket. A club key is required, and there is no access during the closed season without a game permit. Use only the permitted parking areas. Overhead power lines cross the fishery, and RDAA recommends fishing at least 20m from any cable. A valid Environment Agency rod licence is required.
