Handsacre, Staffordshire

River Trent – Handsacre

Handsacre is a short Birmingham Anglers Association fishery on the upper River Trent in Staffordshire. The association identifies 25 pegs and a fishing length extending 700 yards upstream from the new road bridge. Its official map shows the permitted bank beside the access track; this is the right bank when looking downstream. Anglers must stay within the mapped association length rather than assuming that adjoining fields or the opposite bank carry the same permission. Roach are a particular feature of the winter fishing, with chub, bream and occasional barbel also listed by the association. The river is generally shallow here and can become heavily weeded in summer. Conditions therefore vary with the season, and the official description should not be taken as a guarantee of catches. BAA membership provides access, with full adult membership £50 for the 2026 calendar year. From the A513, turn onto the B5014 and use the gate before the bridge. Cars may park along the track up to the double gates, but not beyond them. Keep the track and gates clear and close gates after walking through. Night fishing is prohibited. The stored map location is the road entrance to the car-park track, not the upstream fishing limit.
