Newport Angling Association

Long-established Newport coarse fishing club running three stillwaters, canal sections and river beats on the Wye.

Newport Angling Association was founded in 1899 to provide coarse fishing for anglers in the Newport area and now has around 650 members. Alongside its stillwaters at the Bettws complex, the club controls stretches of canal in and around Newport and two lengths of the River Wye, giving members a mix of still and running-water fishing. The Wye beats offer coarse species typical of a large Welsh border river, fished at a more relaxed pace than the match-orientated pools. The club runs an active committee, holds regular member matches and seasonal competitions, and carries out stocking and habitat work across its fishery portfolio throughout the year.
