Ouse Angling Preservation Society

Society founded in 1875 offering coarse and sea trout fishing on the tidal and non-tidal Sussex Ouse near Lewes.

The Ouse Angling Preservation Society was established in 1875 and provides fishing on many miles of the tidal and non-tidal Sussex Ouse, running downstream as far as Hamsey, north of Lewes, with a water-sharing agreement extending access from Newick down to the Anchor Inn. The river holds the usual coarse species, some to specimen size, alongside a notable run of sea trout, with fish above 10lb recorded and some of the highest average sea trout weights of any river in England and Wales. Pike fishing runs seasonally with lure and deadbait methods permitted. Since 2025 all permits, including day and guest tickets, have been sold online. The society keeps permit holders up to date through its website, a regular bankside blog, email updates and a private permit holders' group, and manages pool permit availability for sea trout fishing each season.
