Paxmans Angling Club

Seven north Essex stillwaters, from gravel pits to irrigation ponds.

Paxmans Angling Club looks after a group of stillwaters across north Essex. Home Farm at Ardleigh is a deep irrigation pond known for big catfish and carp, while Alresford is an attractive tree-lined former gravel pit. Two irrigation ponds at Ramsey Brook near Wix and two more at St Osyth offer mixed carp and silver-fish sport, and Decoy Pond at Brantham is a mature, lily-covered lake currently fished informally while a new lease is arranged. Membership is through a waiting list, with renewals handled by local tackle shops.
