Pickering, North Yorkshire

Pickering Fishery Association

Genuine membership-based fly fishing association, established 1892, controlling becks and two lakes around Pickering.

Pickering Fishery Association is a genuine membership angling organisation established in 1892, originally formed by landowners and anglers interested in the Pickering Beck. It now preserves around eleven miles of becks and streams, including Pickering Beck above and below the town, along with Thornton, Oxfolds and Costa Beck, within and around the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Members fish predominantly with fly or nymph for wild brown trout and grayling, with trotting tackle permitted for grayling in winter. The association also controls two lakes, Pexton Lake and Paper Mill Pond, offering year-round stillwater fishing, with Pexton Lake fitted with wheelchair-accessible platforms. Membership is capped at 130 paid-up members, with reciprocal fishing arrangements with associated clubs in Derbyshire, Harrogate and the Tees area extending the fishing available to members.
