Ripon, North Yorkshire

Ripon Piscatorial Association

Long-established Ripon club controlling miles of the River Ure, the River Laver, Ripon Canal and two stillwaters.

Ripon Piscatorial Association, established in 1904, is one of Yorkshire's oldest angling clubs, offering fishing to several hundred members. The club controls at least one bank of the River Ure from Hutton Beck to Newby Hall, covering streams and deep-water sections holding roach, dace, grayling, perch, chub, barbel, pike, brown trout and occasional salmon. It also holds around two miles of the River Laver and the entirety of Ripon Canal, which supports chub, bream and roach. Beyond its river fishing, the association owns Ure Bank Pond and Ripon Racecourse Lake, both reserved for members. The club actively encourages junior participation through concessionary pricing and free junior access to part of the canal, and is run by an elected committee covering membership, matches and general administration.
